Tournament will start in South Africa from February 10. The Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 to be held in South Africa will start from February 10, where the first match will be played between host team South Africa and Sri Lanka in Cape Town. The final will take place on February 26 and has a reserve day of February 27.
The 2022 Women’s T20 World Cup qualifiers Bangladesh and Ireland will be two teams apart from eight teams. The matches will be held in three cities.
The defending champions Australia are in Group 1 along with New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Whereas India, Pakistan, England, West Indies and Ireland are in Group 2.
The first match between South Africa and Sri Lanka will be followed by matches between England and West Indies and Australia, New Zealand on 11 February. Four Asian teams will start the tournament on February 12, where India will play Pakistan and Bangladesh will play Sri Lanka.
Each team will play the other teams in their group once and the top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals. The semifinal and final matches will be held in Cape Town.
The MCG between India and Australia, the finalists of the 2020 Women’s T20 World Cup, drew 86,175 spectators, just short of a record for any women’s sporting event.
