South Africa faced England in 1st group stage match of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 on 30th May 2019 at London. Proteas skipper Faf du Plessis after winning the toss invited English team to bat 1st while closely observed the playing conditions @ Kennington, London.
JJ Roy and JM Bairstow came out to open up innings for their team in this crucial match. Unlike previous performances the most reliable opening pair of English team failed to play up-to expectations in this game. England lost their 1st wicket in very first over of the innings as JM Bairstow was targeted by Proteas spin wizard Imran Tahir and Bairstow returned to pavilion without opening his account.
JE Root replaced Bairstow and joined Roy on crease, both these batsmen played really well and took their team total to 107 runs in 18th over of the match. Proteas pacer Phehlukwayo succeed to break this crucial partnership in 19th over and Roy after scoring 54 got out and returned to pavilion.
England lost their 3rd wicket at the total of 111 runs and this time JE Root was hunted by Rabada and Root returned to pavilion after playing brilliant innings of 51 runs. England after losing two set wickets in quick session looked in deep trouble but at this stage English skipper E Morgan and BA Stokes played responsible innings.
Morgan and Stokes played outstandingly and took their team total to 217 runs in 36th over of the match. Morgan after scoring 57 runs bowled out and Imran Tahir took his wicket. At the total of 247 runs England lost their 5th wicket and this time Buttler after contributing 18 runs hunted by Ngidi and returned to pavilion.
England at the end of 50th over scored 311 runs and lost their 8 wickets. BA Stokes played really well for his side in depth over and scored 89 runs. England in depth over struggled to hit some big shots and limited by Proteas pacers.
South Africa in return started off really badly as Hashim Amla after receiving short pitch bouncer from Archer returned to pavilion as retired hurt whereas at the total of 36 runs Proteas lost their 1st wicket and Markram after scoring 5 runs gout out and Archer took his wicket.
South Afrcia at the total of 44 runs lost their 2nd wicket and this time Proteas skipper du Plessis was targeted by Archer once again and he returned to pavilion while scored 11 runs. England got their 3rd breakthrough in 22nd over and this time well set de Kock was bowled out by Plunkett and Kock after playing 68 runs innings left the field.
In middle over, South Africa batting line-up collapsed in front of strong English bowling attack and back to back wickets put Proteas in deep trouble. At the end of 33rd over Proteas scored 172 runs while lost their 6 wickets.
