Just In! Pakistan Cricket Board has still not decided to extend the contracts of chief selector Inzaman-ul-Haq and head coach Micket Arthur. The contracts of both these high officials of PCB will end in mid-July right after the Cricket World Cup 2019.
Pakistan Cricket team former skipper Aamir Sohial will hopefully replace Inzamam-ul-Haq as Chief Selector whose 3 year contract will conclude in July 2019. As per sources, Aamir Sohail is one of the strong contender for the post of Chief Selector and his name is already short listed by PCB. However, PCB’s Managing Director Wasim Khan will have ultimate powers to appoint Chief Selector and Head Coach for Pakistan Cricket Team.
Aamir Sohail has also served Pakistan cricket team as Chief Selector back in between 2002 and 2004. Importantly the performance of Pakistan cricket team during ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 will not impact on the decision of appointment of Chief Selector and Head Coach.
According to reliable sources, Pakistan’s newly appointed Chairman Ehsan Mani and Wasim Khan (MD) didn’t look happy with few decisions made by both Inzamam-ul-Haq and Mickey Arthur regarding to Cricket World Cup 2019.
Inzamam-ul-Haq still have big support in PCB lobby but final decision is in the hands of Wasim Khan. Mickey Arthur who remained the part of Pakistan cricket team since 2016 is currently busy in the preparations of World Cup 2019 and didn’t talk too much about his extension of contract with PCB
It is not clear that whether PCB prefers another foreigner head coach for Pakistan cricket team or any local player would join them. Currently PCB is focusing on Cricket World Cup 2019 and some big decisions will be made right after this event.
The performance of Pakistan under the supervision of Mickey Arthur remained on high end as Pakistan won the ICC Champions Trophy two years back under his coaching. So PCB might prefer Mickey Arthur once again to coach Pakistan Cricket Team for upcoming T20 World Cup 2020.
