Finally controversies end for all Sri Lanka cricket team fans as the governing body of Sri Lanka cricket has announced their white ball skipper name for upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 and Dimuth Karunaratne is appointed as new ODI captain of Sri Lanka.
The decision was made after Sri Lanka X-skipper Angelo Mathews refused to perform his duties as captain during ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. D Karunaratne is already skippering Sri Lanka in Test format and no doubt he is the most senior and experienced mate in Lanka playing squad.
Well the issue over captaincy of Sri Lanka ODI cricket team raised due to disharmony among the high officials of Sri Lanka cricket. Angelo Mathews was leading the Sri Lanka cricket team since 2006 and no doubt under his captaincy Lanka cricket team has achieved historical mile stones.
Before him, the experienced L Malanga also captained Sri Lanka back in December 2018 but Sri Lanka cricket team has totally failed to win a single match under the captaincy of Malanga while appeared as skipper in 8 ODI matches.
As per news Angelo Mathews was having some reservations with his head coach especially after their performance in recent Asia Cup where the Sri Lanka cricket team were badly defeated by Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
Dimuth Karunaratne is already leading Sri Lanka in Test format and his performance in recent test series against South Africa put him in spotlight where Lankans for the 1st time in history white washed Proteas on their home land and also become the 1st Asian team to do so.
